A survey monitoring the amenity “wants” and “don’t wants” of U.S. travelers revealed some surprising things about where those “must-have” hotel perks are heading. The TripAdvisor Trip Barometer Truth in Travel Survey released in December notes free wi-fi, parking and breakfast are in high demand, while stocked mini-bars and spa treatments are not.

Least Important Hotel Amenities for U.S. Travelers

- 2. Spa/Beauty Treatments (23%)
- 3. Business Center (34%)
- 4. Laundry Service (39%)
- 5. Free Pool-Side Wi-Fi (42%)
When it comes to traveling abroad and staying at hotels in other countries, U.S. travelers say the top two wish list requests are: “Accepting My Cards” and “Speaking My Language”
“Accept my credit cards” (59%) and “hire staff who speak my language” (34%) are the top things U.S. travelers wish their hotels would do, as compared to 12 percent who wish hotels would “include typical food from my country in the menu.”
